Halloween 2019
Sullivan is walking this year, and that means trick-or-treating! We found his costume at Once Upon a Child and spent $6.50 on it! If you are not shopping here, you should be. It is wall to wall gently used children’s clothes, toys, shoes, and more. I actually love hand-me-downs, especially if they are super cheap, and it doesn’t get anymore gently used than a Halloween costume that was probably only worn once or twice. His costume is a full zip-up dinosaur suit complete with a hood. It is freaking adorable! There were several costumes we had to choose from, meaning they have good stock and we didn’t just get lucky.
We also found an outfit (pants and shirt) for $4.50 with the original tags still on (from Carters). Lastly, we left with 2 pairs of shoes, both Vans. These were a little more worn IMO but Jared really liked them. Honestly, he will grow in and out of them pretty fast it won’t matter much and the ‘worn in look’ is kinda cool. They were $6.50 each.
I was kind of hoping to do a family Halloween costume thing. Something matchy and cute, but his green dinosaur is a little bit random. Ultimately I came up with this unicorn headband for myself. It was quick and easy to make, I had all the supplies already, and I plan on wearing it to work (appropriate enough and easily removable if needed).
I used this free crochet pattern. I skipped crocheting around the headband itself and just hot glued directly to my white headband.
I am very pleased with how it turned out. It will serve it’s purpose nicely. I plan to jazz it up by doing some super glittery/rainbow makeup (pictures to come) and possibly glitter in my hair.
That just leaves Jared. I have no idea what he’s planning. Probably the same mask he wore last year. Maybe next year we will do the family matching thing.
Our neighborhood is kid friendly and will be good for trick-or-treating so we will walk around on Halloween. It is a Thursday this year and I will have to work that night, but I wouldn’t miss it. Also, I came across an event in Wendell to attend: Halloween Treat Trail on October 25th from 5-8p at the Wendell Community Center park. Free and geared towards the younger kids ages 12 and under (so not super scary). We plan on being there, come say hi to our little dinosaur!
Do your family costumes match? Do you make your own costume? What local events are you attending? I wanna see/hear all about it!
Update: The Wendell Treat Trail was great! We all had a good time. It was literally a trail in the woods -not paved, bumpy, but still glad we brought the small stroller because it was long! The beginning had blow-up decorations to take pictures next to (see below). The trail was lined with tables of different local businesses handing out candy and business cards. Some of them were decorated really cool.
Despite the above photos Sully really did have a good time! His expressions crack me up! He was obsessed with his pumpkin bucket ($1 at Target) and I was surprised that he left his hood on the whole time. We got plenty of candy, despite a couple tables running out, and there were a couple businesses I was interested in (painting classes- I’ve always wanted to do a wine and canvas thing, and a new Charter school opening up to name a few). We were there from around 6:30p-7:30p and I would say it was busy. We were directed to park and the beginning part of the trail was waiting in line for the next table. Overall, it was a good free family event that we will likely attend next year. Thank you Wendell!
Additional update: as promised here are some pictures of my makeup. Glitter galore! I used all 4 of my glitter gels (Colourpop and Target brand). See detailed post here. I also did rainbow lashes, details on that here.
