Why you should try colored mascara and different ways to wear it.

Why you should try colored mascara and different ways to wear it.

Colored mascara is having a moment right now. Such brands as: NYX, Colourpop, and Yves Saint Laurent have multiple color options to elevate your lash game. When Colourpop came out with their BFF Mascara in 8 different colors ($8 each!) I was very excited to try some. I chose Kiss ‘n teal, Left on red, and Yellow goodbye. Teal is a fairly common color, but I had never seen yellow or red before.

While I haven’t tried this YSL forest green mascara (yet) pictured below, I came across it in Sephora and it really caught my eye. Leave me a comment if you’ve tried it (or if you know of a cheaper dupe!). It’s a little pricey IMO but I might splurge on it if it’s worth it. I think it might work especially well with my hazel eyes.

I love the green/purple mascara combo in the pic!

An obvious option for wearing colored mascara is to replace your normal black or brown mascara and use it all over lashes. While this is a fun option, I really like to mix it up and use multiple colors at once. Black on top lashes and a color on bottom lashes. Colored mascara on bottom lashes and inner corner of upper lashes and black on outer top lashes (see below).

Another fun idea is rainbow lashes. The color combinations here are near limitless. I tend to do lighter colors towards the inner corner and darker colors on the outer lashes, but there are no rules! Depending on your collection of colors, ombre would be fun too.

While putting together this post I came across L.A. Girl’s newest mascara launch, Volumatic Mascara, and I am very excited about it. Here’s why: not only does it come in 3 fun colors (purple, blue, and turquoise- as well as 2 shades of black), it is a “tubular” formula. This is the same technology as my favorite mascara L’oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara. Essentially it surrounds and coats your lashes in tubes that are very lengthening. I never have a problem with clumping and raccoon eyes are a thing of the past. It washes off with warm water and comes off in clumps so no rubbing and no staining. The difference between these 2 is that the L’oreal mascara uses a white primer while the new L.A. Girl mascara does not. I will be picking up the Volumatic Mascara in purple as soon as I get a chance. Have you tried it yet? Thoughts?
