YMCA swim class

YMCA swim class

I have decided that Sullivan needs baby swim classes. It’s one of those things that seems like a good idea and has a time limit on it. Baby swim classes have to be done during babyhood. Well he is getting close to a year and the YMCA has classes this summer, so we are signing up! It involves a parent going into the water with him, most likely myself. I don’t really want to talk about the fact that this will be the first time my after-baby mom bod will be in a bathing suit (yikes!). Honestly I’m going to try not to think about it too much. I’m doing this for him and surely there will be other mom bods there. He has loved bath time from day 1 and seems to enjoy the water so I think he is going to have a great time. I bought him a reusable swim diaper from Amazon (link below).

We are going to the 11:50a-12:25p class starting June 15th at Alexander Family YMCA. Any other local parents signed up? We look forward to meeting some new friends!

6/15/19 Update

First class in the books! And it was a fun experience for the whole family. I’m actually glad I didn’t try to go alone with him because the logistics were a little tricky. I received an email the day before with helpful information about the class: arrive 5-10 minutes early, get changed in the family locker room, ect. Well, the family locker room was smallish and involved waiting our turn, and trying to get him changed and myself changed would have been super tricky on my own.

The actual pool time was fun. The temperature was cold (our lips were quivering!), but apparently something was broken causing it to be colder than normal. We’re looking forward to it being fixed next time. It was very hard to hear the instructor, at no fault of her own, the acoustics are terrible. We were learning such skills as entering and exiting the pool safely, blowing bubbles, and overall water acclimation. We sang a couple songs and splashed around a lot. Jared and I had a good time floating around with him.

I was proud of Sully for doing as well as he did. I can absolutely see how a baby could feel very overwhelmed by everything. He didn’t really catch on to blowing bubbles, we’ll keep working on it. His swim diaper fit perfectly and seemed to work well. Overall, it is a nice family activity that we have to look forward to every week and I can’t wait to see his progress. Since it was our first class (and we weren’t as early as we should have been) and we were both in the water it slipped our minds to get some pictures, but we plan to next week. Stay posted!
