Shampoo and conditioner bars from Viori

Shampoo and conditioner bars from Viori

I have gone completely plastic-free when it comes to shampoo and conditioner. I came across solid shampoo and conditioner bars that I love. The brand is Viori and the reason I tried them in the first place sounds to good to be true. I saw an advertisement that claimed it prevents you from going grey. See what I mean? To good to be true.

Well, I’m slightly a sucker and the price was right so here we are.

First thing’s first, they smell AMAZING! Terrace Garden is my prefect floral scent. I have an affinity for floral scents and this one is so good. I can smell the lilac in it. I buy this one time and time again, I’ll never get tired of the way it smells. Hidden Waterfall is also good. It’s described on their website as a musky sweet vanilla. It smells very fresh to me. I haven’t tried the other two, and probably won’t. Citrus Yao probably smells amazing but it is geared more towards oily hair and my hair is dry. Native Essence is unscented and luckily I don’t have any fragrance sensitivities so I want a scent. I am always on the lookout for limited edition scents that peak my interest too.

Secondly, not only is the plastic-free aspect extremely environmental friendly but the paper packaging they do use is an origami work of art. They are so pretty I would consider gifting them.

The shampoo bars are definitely the focus. All the fancy designs and artistic wrapping goes into them, and the conditioner bars are there to compliment and complete the set.

I have been using this brand almost exclusively for the past year or so and when I went to get my hair cut the other day, while she was washing it, she said I had the healthiest hair she’d seen all week. I thought that was something. Also, I don’t know what shampoo they used on me but it made my scalp so dry and itchy. Unbearably itchy with dandruff flying everywhere! I had to wash my own hair later that night, with Viori of course, and all is well. I’m not known for having any sensitivities so this really surprised me. I think Viori just keeps me moisturized and I don’t have trouble with dandruff when I use it.

The main ingredient is longsheng rice which is sourced from the Red Yao tribe in China. They are incredible, beautiful women. You need to read about them and how Viori supports them, their sustainability, and culture here. It makes me feel good to support a company that does good in the world like they do.

Ok, now for the million dollar question, do they work against grey hair? Well, unfortunately (fortunately?) I am 34 and don’t have any grey hair yet. So, to be determined. Also, the fine print says that this prevents grey hair from developing and can’t do anything for hairs that are already grey. I guess I will reevaluate in 10 years or so? I can always compare myself to my sister as we both age, as long as she doesn’t color her hair.

Honestly, I like this product so much for multiple other reasons that I’ll continue to use it regardless. If I end up with no or less grey hair that’ll just be a bonus, but I won’t hold my breath.

I recommend looking for a coupon code or signing up for a subscription to get the best deal. I was on the subscription for a while but ended it because I was backlogged with bars. I wash my hair about twice a week and these last me a good long while. I also recommend springing for the bamboo holders. I have not regretted doing so and they are holding up well.

Let me know if you have tried these or if you plan to. Also, if there is another brand of bars you really like, although I would be hard pressed to make a switch at this point.

Breaking news…Viori is now sold at Sephora! I am glad that the company is growing in this way, being picked up by such a huge retailer. They deserve it. I am also pumped to earn Sephora rewards points when I buy my shampoo and conditioner now!
