Sullivan’s first birthday, and his cake smash, were a success! I made the cake myself (see previous post), and I was very pleased with it. In my mind I was going for red frosting as the base layer but it just kept looking darker and darker pink. I rolled with it and I think it looks great in the pictures!
It took him a minute but eventually he really got into it. He ate a lot of it and squished most of it.

The food was ordered from Publix: sub sandwiches, greek salad, and a cake for the rest of the guests. It all turned out great (the whipped cream frosting is where it’s at!). I was very impressed with everything from Publix. I would absolutely recommend them and order from them again. My only gripe would have to be that while I was there picking up the food/cake I noticed a sign saying you can get a free individual cake for your child’s first birthday when you order a cake. I had no idea and while I wouldn’t have used it for the cake smash, free cake is free cake and it would have gotten eaten. It’s a small complaint, overall I was very happy with everything. What do you think of my brain cake? Have you used Publix catering? How does it compare to Lowe’s or Harris Teeter?
