Swim class comes to an end. Was it worth it? My final thoughts.
I am happy to report that our last 2 swim classes were awesome! Not only was there no crying, Sully was actually having fun! Splashing (a lot!), kicking, singing, and diving (see video below!).
You can just see it on his face this time that he is much more comfortable in the water. He had absolutely no fear of jumping into the pool to me from sitting on the ledge. In fact, he took some coaxing last week and this week he had zero hesitation. He also became very comfortable floating on his back with his head on my shoulder. Previously he would tense up and struggle to sit up.
We did a dive!!! It was kinda scary but super fun! The instructor offered to dive him but I decided to be brave and do it myself, and I’m glad I did. Making those good memories together!
One big dive! A little surprised but no crying!
We had our ups and downs but overall I think it was worth it. I think it was successful in getting him acclimated to the pool. Can he swim/float by himself? No, but it is no longer a scary foreign thing. We plan to sign up again next summer, hopefully at our local Knightdale YMCA. Baby steps, he’ll be a little swimmer yet!
