Baby swim classes, Part 2
We are having some serious mixed feelings about our swim class lately. We remembered to get photos before our second class, see below. No big smiles happening, as you can see, but we got through it. Learning new skills such as the back tow (see photos with Dad), not really mastering anything though.
As it turns out the pool was not broken, it is just freezing cold all the time. I’m talking chattering teeth, blue lips and toes cold. Well, our most recent class (#3) was no exception and Sully was not having it at all! He was that kid in class that was pretty much crying the whole time, trying to death grip us, and climb up us to get out. And, as soon as class was over and we were out of the pool he was fine. The warm shower in the locker room afterwards actually really cheered him up.
I’m sure the temperature is what it is for a reason (there are people swimming laps on the other side), but for babies/kids it is too cold IMO. We will of course continue to go, it is paid for after all, but I will be a little on edge next time to see how he reacts. No class this week due to the holiday (happy 4th!), so we at least get a little break. Anyone have a similar experience? We are certainly not the only parents who have commented on the cold temperature. There are a couple babies that always look like they are having a blast, splashing around and laughing. That is the experience I imagined we would have. Am I expecting too much from this class? From Sully? Leave me your thoughts.

A cold pool is no fun! Does he like to splash in a backyard wading pool? I wonder if getting him used to cold water that way would lessen the trauma of the cold lessons? 🤔
That’s a good idea. We’ve only done baths, which are nice and warm. We’ll have to try a kiddie pool.
