Allure Beauty box

Allure Beauty box

I like to think I tend towards positive reviews. If I find something I like I want to tell other people about it. Well, unfortunately, this is going to be the opposite. I had a poor experience with ordering and receiving the Allure Beauty box and I really want to rant about it. For starters, I was not looking to try this monthly subscription box in the first place but I came across a deal that seemed too good to be true (and turned out to be).

I received an email advertising the May box for $10 ($5 off) and a special gift- a full sized perfume. The perfume was valued over $100 and while I didn’t know what it smelled like I was willing to give it a try for $10.

I’ve had a couple monthly beauty box subscriptions before (Birchbox, Ipsy, Walmart) so I know that you have to make sure to cancel them at the right time or they continue to charge you every month at the standard rate (in this case $15 every month). After reading through Allure’s website my understanding was that you can expect to receive the box from the month that you are currently in when ordering- in my case May, and you have to cancel before the first of the next month or you can expect to be charged for the next month. I ordered around May 20th and called to cancel well before the 31st. Small annoyance: they have an email option (I kind of hate calling people, waiting on hold, ect), but I never heard back via email to this day despite the fact that an automatically generated email states you will hear from someone within 2 business days. So I had to call. I was told the cancellation was taken care of and to expect my box to ship in a couple weeks. Well, 4 weeks go by and I had not received a shipment email yet so I called yet again. This was when I got really annoyed. The person I talked to was not very friendly, she seemed to have an attitude with me. She said I would be getting the June box and the perfume was a gift you receive for sending a gift subscription to someone else. That was not my understanding at all, so I was upset (I might have sent a gift to one of my sisters if that was the case). When I tried to ask about getting the May box and the perfume she said the perfume is no longer available and she can put in an order for the May box for me. I said forget it, send me whatever (I’m not paying for another box). Furthermore, when I tried to confirm my subscription was cancelled she said, “it is now”, like it hadn’t been and she just did it now! I have not been charged another month, thankfully, and I finally received a shipping email 6/25. So, between what I’m considering false/confusing advertising and poor customer service I can not recommend the Allure Beauty box. You can see the box below. I’m not excited about any of it. In fact, I already have 2 of the items that I received as samples from another source.

On the flip side, if you are looking for a good, cheap subscription box I can recommend the Walmart Beauty box. Now, if you know me you know that I dislike Walmart. I try not to shop there. It is just so corporate, and often dirty/disorganized, and I never see employees that seem to enjoy their job. That being said, I find the Beauty box worth it. Technically the box is free and you pay $5 for shipping. It comes with 5+ products and usually some coupons. The products are not prestige brands, they are brands you would find at Walmart. It does not ship monthly, it is only once every season. I cancelled Ipsy and Birchbox to try to save some money but I kept this one. I can justify it for only $5 every 3 months. Sign up here.
